Superalloy Fastener Standards Comparison

ASTM / AMS / DIN / EN / GB / JIS cross-reference for high-temperature bolting grades, product specifications, and certification requirements.

Global procurement of superalloy fasteners requires navigating multiple standards systems. The same Inconel 718 bolt might be specified as ASTM B637 (USA), EN 10269 2.4668 (Europe), GH4169 per GB/T 3098.8 (China), or NW7718 per JIS (Japan). This reference maps grade equivalences, fastener product standards, and certification requirements across all major systems.

Grade Equivalency: Trade Name vs UNS vs International Designations

When writing a purchase order for international supply, always reference both the trade name AND the UNS number. Relying solely on trade names (e.g. "Inconel") can lead to substitution with generic material that does not meet the same chemistry or mechanical requirements.

Trade Name UNS Werkstoff GB (China) JIS (Japan) EN Designation ASTM Bar AMS
Inconel 718 N07718 2.4668 GH4169
NW7718 NiCr19NbMo ASTM B637 AMS 5662/5663
A-286 S66286 1.4980 GH2132
SUH660 X6NiCrTiMoVB25-15-2 ASTM A453 Gr 660 AMS 5731/5732/5734
Nimonic 80A N07080 2.4952 GH4080A
NW4080 NiCr20TiAl BS HR 401 AMS 5828
Hastelloy C-276 N10276 2.4819 NS3304
NW0276 NiMo16Cr15W ASTM B574 -
Monel K-500 N05500 2.4375 -
NW5500 NiCu30Al ASTM B865 QQ-N-286
Inconel 625 N06625 2.4856 GH3625
NW6625 NiCr22Mo9Nb ASTM B446 AMS 5666

The twelve bolting and bar standards behind these grades — ASTM, AMS, EN, DIN, GB and JIS, with the grades each governs — are listed in fastener product standards by region.

Material Certification: EN 10204 2.1 vs 2.2 vs 3.1 vs 3.2

The EN 10204 standard defines four levels of material certification. The difference between a 3.1 and 3.2 certificate is the single most common point of confusion in international fastener procurement. Here is what each level means in practice.

Certification Name Testing Witness Typical Use
EN 10204 2.1 Declaration of Compliance None None Non-critical, low-value commercial fasteners
EN 10204 2.2 Test Report Non-specific None General industrial, non-safety-critical
EN 10204 3.1 Inspection Certificate 3.1 Heat-specific Manufacturer's authorised inspector (independent of production) Pressure equipment, PED applications, industrial bolting. Our standard certification.
EN 10204 3.2 Inspection Certificate 3.2 Heat-specific Manufacturer's + purchaser's authorised inspector, or third-party (SGS/TUV/BV) Nuclear, aerospace, subsea, NORSOK. Available on request with surcharge.

Procurement note: Our standard shipment includes EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates with heat number, full chemical analysis, mechanical properties, grain size, and PMI results. EN 10204 3.2 certification with third-party witness (SGS, TUV, or BV) is available on request. NORSOK M-650 and API 6A CRA qualification testing can be quoted separately. Always specify your certification requirement on the PO.
