Temperature-Strength Curves for Superalloy Bolts

Tensile strength and yield strength retention from 20degC to 815degC for all six high-temperature fastener grades, based on our own melt data and published minimums.

One of the most common errors in high-temperature bolt specification is selecting a material based on its room-temperature strength rather than its strength at operating temperature. A-286 looks competitive with Inconel 718 at 20degC, but at 650degC the gap widens dramatically, and above 700degC, only Nimonic 80A and higher-end grades remain viable. This page provides tabulated strength-at-temperature data for informed decision-making.

Per-grade retention cards, giving the percentage of room-temperature tensile each grade still holds at 400, 600, 700 and 815°C, are in strength retention by grade.

Data source and limitations: Values are from our own VIM+VAR melted heats tested per ASTM E21 at temperature with 30-minute soak. These represent typical performance; minimum guaranteed values per ASTM/AMS specifications may be lower. For critical applications, request a heat-specific elevated-temperature tensile report with your order. Stress-rupture data (100h, 1000h, 10,000h Larson-Miller parameter curves) available on request.
